DAVE HASLAM: 'LIFE AFTER DARK' TALK

I went to the book launch for Dave Haslam's loving tribute to the British nightclub and music scene of his youth. 'Life After Dark' opened an interesting discussion about the ever-changing British youth culture and the significance to individuals of experiencing a vibrant night life. At times it verged on becoming a melancholic evening of reminiscing for the author and his panel, as stories of youth were passed down the table. However, rather than being left with a feeling of loss - an idea that all good things have already passed, it was a celebration of the evolution of youth culture, and the continuation of the nightclub.

The panel talked so passionately about some of the venues they had known and loved most, you could visualize the scene perfectly. I would like to develop the concept that Haslam put forward; his idea about 'life-shaping moments' which occur in these unlikely settings during youth, into a collection of photographs. In an attempt to capture some of these moments as they happen, to both document for the present and preserve for the future, that fleeting feeling of the moment.
