I took a variety of photographs around Blackburn, however, I only chose to include these six images, because they shared a subject: people around Blackburn, and they went together as a collection. It is interesting how the outcome of a portrait changes if the individual is made aware they are having their photograph taken.
We asked this man if we could take a photograph of him, so he had time to think about his expression and became a little self conscious.
This man noticed I was taking a picture of him, and his expression changed - people tended to become much more self-aware when they are being photographed.

Similarly as the first, we asked this man before taking his photograph, he was very obliging and happy to have his picture taken.
This man was totally unaware he was having his picture taken, so there is no self-consciousness or awkwardness in his position.
