INSPIRED BY... THE REFUGEE CRISIS AND PROTEST ART

My project will be based on protest art, in particular the ongoing Syrian refugee crisis and the reaction to it in the media.

I will make a / a collection of garment(s), in distressed white fabric, built up with wire with the 3D pathway. I would also like to photograph the garments on their own before continuing the project.

As well as the garments, I would like to make a film inspired by the scratch film. But rather than composed of random lines, I want to make it from text - the text will be sourced and recreated from protest posters I find through research.

I will research photographers who have captured images of these statements, and recreate the posters using paint (fine art pathway) or directly onto film with permanent marker.

I will then clip the individual posters / film together with the media pathway to create a fast moving film, similar to the scratch film.

I will then project the film onto a model wearing the dress, and film the outcome with the media pathway.

For contextual references within the V&A collection, I am researching general protest art and propaganda, as well as specific exhibitions such as the 'Disobedient Objects' exhibition and also wider protest / defiance in fashion, with designers such as Vivienne Westwood.
